Executives of the Ministry of Justice, in response to the letter sent by the head of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office Laura Covesi to the European Commission protesting against the Justice Ministry’s amendment on speeding up the trial of criminal cases involving political figures, recall what she said at the Delphi Economic Forum (23 April 2026).

In particular, they recall that Ms. Covey had said:

“Yesterday (4/22/26), we had a very good meeting with the Home Minister and we will have more resources to go further in this investigation. I had this discussion with the Minister of Justice about changes in legislation. I understand they want to do something to speed up the process. I really welcome that. And I agree that we need to do something. I also expressed an opinion. Again, it’s not that I asked for something from the Greek authorities, but we have a review of 24 different court systems and we have a good view of what needs to be done,” said European Public Prosecutor Laura Covesi speaking at the Delphi Economic Forum on 23 April 2026.

These public statements by the European Public Prosecutor, Laura Covessi, at the 11th Delphi Economic Forum on 23 April 2026, clearly illustrate the true dimension of the cooperation between the Greek authorities and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. Ms. Covesi herself publicly acknowledged that there has been substantial communication and consultation with the Greek government on both the acceleration of procedures and the necessary legislative interventions to enhance the effectiveness of investigations. It is therefore obvious that there was no surprise on the part of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. And everyone can draw their own conclusions.”
