Costas Bakoyannis, who lost his father in 1989 in a targeted terrorist attack by the terrorist organization, spoke about the release of Alexandros Yiotopoulos of “17N”.

“We have a system which, on the occasion of this, we might have to rethink,” the former mayor noted, speaking on Mega’s “Smile and Again” show.

“I woke up this morning and I was looking at the sites and I was thinking, I was telling Sia. If I run into him somewhere on the street, chances are good because I’m walking around, what am I going to do? And even worse: if our kids see him, what are we going to do? But then I corrected myself a bit and I’ll tell you why. I’m all about sharing this in public. But there are too many people who may see us and don’t have that luck, living such difficult situations alone, in silence. We have a system that, on this occasion, we may need to rethink. Because our system is a correctional system. Okay, no objections,” he noted.

“Let’s take Yiotopoulos as an example. He has been found guilty and sentenced 17 times to life in prison for 17 murders. He is in prison for 24 years, and in total he will be in prison for 25 years. So 1.5 years for each murder. This is something we need to discuss as a society. Do we consider this justice?” he questioned.
