Alexis Tsipras presented the founding declaration and the name of the new political formation “ELAS – Hellenic Leftist Coalition” tonight at Thiseio.
The former Prime Minister called on citizens to actively participate in the new political initiative by signing the declaration and supporting the effort to create a broader social and political front with reference to the centre-left.
The event had strong elements reminiscent of the mood and faces of SYRIZA, but without the presence of active MPs of the party. Several former Koumoundourou executives and associates were in the venue early on.
According to the latest polls, the new party appears to be in second place, just a short distance from PASOK, which bodes well for intense competition for dominance in the centre-left.
