Thymios Georgopoulos, who had served as the party’s finance director for several years, resigned from SYRIZA today.

In his post, Thimios Georgopoulos declares that he supports Alexis Tsipras’ new project and leaves clear criticism of the current situation in SYRIZA, noting that he has been left “to fight alone with the dogs of Goebbels”.

“UNCLEAN SOLDIERS YES, YUMNOS NEVER

There are times when silence weighs heavier than words and the conscience asks for a clear sky to stand upright.

With this thought, I submit my resignation as a member of SYRIZA and the Central Committee, after a journey (from the distant 1989, the year of the formation of the united Coalition, until today) full of struggles, hopes, joys and deep wounds that time has left on our flags.

I do not leave in anger, even though even a few days ago you left me to fight alone with the “dogs of Goebbelsism” that some of you – party “gatekeepers” – diverted to devour (in the recent past) and since then, while you could, you have never silenced.

I leave with sadness and dignity. Because everything (Social Justice, Equality, Democracy) that we believed in, fought for and – in some measure – tried to achieve in difficult circumstances, today seems like a “shirtless shirt” and slogans for personal arrangements and individual political survival of the few that set the tone and distort the untainted consciousness of the many.

I hold within me the people we walked together, nights of struggle, with looks of faith and solidarity.

I am leaving as the ship leaves the harbor: not because it hates the sea, but because it seeks a horizon that holds the dream.

Because the dream never dies.

And the dream of the governing Left that will (again) represent the great social majority is born, with Alexis Tsipras as its guarantor, as his deeds and his days, as his attitude to life from the first moment until now unmistakably testify.

I join him as a simple soldier and crusader for his message:

“The progressive faction is being reconstituted and Mitsotakis will have an opponent in the next elections, whenever and wherever they are held.”
