An alarm was raised at dawn on the Dilaveri coast in Mikrolimano, following a bloody incident during an operation by officers of the Extortion Department of the Greek Anti-Organized Crime Directorate.
According to reports, a team of eight police officers approached a man in order to carry out a check. According to the same information, the suspect reacted by surprise, pointing a gun at the officers and attempting to shoot. One of the officers made use of his service weapon, wounding the man.
There was a commotion at the scene and the area was immediately cordoned off for security reasons. The injured man was taken under guard to the nearest hospital. During the ensuing search, the police found three weapons and a bag containing six grenades. Due to the seriousness of the find, a special team of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department (EODD) rushed to the spot, which undertook the control and safe removal of the explosives.
