The former ministers Kostas Tsiaras and Notis Mitarakis appeared in person at the offices of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, who, in their statements about being summoned as suspects for committing an offence concerning subsidies of the OPEKEPE, stressed that it will be proved that they have not committed any illegal act.
Mitarakis said he did not intend to ask for a deadline for his explanations, saying he was ready to rebut the questions raised by European prosecutors.
As the former minister said, “I have acted within the law. I want the case to be resolved immediately. I have not committed any illegal act. I have acted within the framework of the constitution and the law. I have confidence in the institutions and in the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Chiaras, coming to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, said he chose to appear himself “because I believe that through my memo all the evidence for my innocence will be proven and that there was no harm to the Greek public. I have said it before I have confidence in the Greek justice system.”
The lawyer for both former ministers, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, told reporters that “there is a report by Friday Tycheropoulou, as a special adviser to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, where the alleged damage as in the case of Papakosta is limited to 7,000 euros. In the case of Mr. Mitarakis to 0”.
