Alexandra Sdoukou, spokeswoman of the New Democracy’s press spokeswoman, speaking on MEGA news and 9.84 FM, referred to the latest developments in the Parliament, the opposition’s stance on critical issues of institutions and foreign policy, while referring, as she said, to the opposition’s contradictions and practices, which “are not in line with the seriousness that democracy requires”.
“Flattening and undermining”
Demiris, and then they made feuilleton dialogues and leaked them left and right”, stressing that “it is inconceivable to set up wells, to make coptic and set up a whole show”, which shows “panic and desperation”. Commenting on the reaction of Androulakis, who said “big deal”, she said it was “trivialisation and undermining of the parliamentary function itself”.
Criminalization without evidence
When asked about the vote to set up a special committee of preliminary examination, Ms. Sduku said that “lately we have been seeing an attempt by the opposition to shift the debate from the -political agenda to an ongoing discussion about examinations and preliminary investigations, stressing that “we are not going to enter into this logic, especially when we are talking about such serious procedures that need concrete evidence such as: What is the act, what is the damage, how is it documented” adding that “in the case of Livanos and Arabatzis, we did what the Constitution provides. We evaluated the evidence in the case file and no evidence or indications emerged to justify a preliminary examination.” Regarding the different approach to the waivers of MPs’ immunity and the establishment of a preliminary inquiry, Sdoukou said that “they are completely different procedures” and the government’s approach shows that “it is neither afraid of control” nor will it allow public life to become a vast court of law.
Foreign policy with confidence but not naivety
Ms. Referring to Greek-Turkish relations and the “calm waters” strategy, Ms. Sdoukou noted that “Greece has gained time, stability and diplomatic space in the last three years, using this condition to strengthen itself at all levels. The ‘calm waters’ do not imply a change of line or any discount to the firm Greek positions. We are not discussing issues of national sovereignty and sovereign rights and this remains absolutely clear. They do not mean that the Greek-Turkish differences have been eliminated. They mean that a responsible country seeks to avoid constantly generating crises and tensions, maintaining open channels of communication without backing down even the slightest bit on its national rights” and this “we have achieved”. Regarding Dendias’ statements, Sdoukou said that the Defence Minister, who is implementing the strategy of his ministry, has the right to have his own personal style. This is not only in Greece. In any case, calm waters mean national confidence and not national naivety.
