The mobilisation of the authorities was triggered by a video sent to Adonis Georgiades showing a doctor asking for a patient’s envelope.
The Health Minister, in a post on X, informed that he ordered an investigation and identified both the person and the hospital. He even asked that the doctor be removed from the NHS.

“A short while ago I was sent an unacceptable video posted on social media by a patient who recorded an anaesthetist while he was asking her €100-150 to do what he is obliged to provide free of charge to every patient. From the investigation I immediately ordered, both the hospital and the person were identified.
I also ordered the Hospital Management to immediately take all legal action to have this person removed from the NHS. I abhor graft, an act that exploits human suffering and has nothing to do with the Values we serve in the NHS. I am very sorry and apologise to the patient,” Adonis Georgiades wrote.
