The creation of a “European Observatory for the fight against obscenity” was proposed to the European Commission by the MEP of the New Democracy Party, George Avtias.

And, in its conclusion, it underlines the necessity of setting up the Observatory also because of the “continuing instability in the economies of the countries due to the war in Iran, causing a rise in the prices of basic commodities”. Moreover, speaking in the plenary session of the European Parliament last week in Strasbourg, in the presence of the executive vice-president for employment, Roxana Minzatou, Mr Avtias had said:

“Madam Commissioner, the community support proposal needs one more thing. For thirty-five years I have been saying it on Greek television and stressing it to the Greeks. And I will say it from here. We need to set up an observatory against obscenity, so that this hydra of obscenity stops spreading throughout Europe. Do it now and know that all European citizens will be grateful to you.”
