The Metropolitan Park Pavlou Mela, the new green lung and recreational and cultural area of western Thessaloniki, was visited by the Coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Office in Thessaloniki, Yannis Papageorgiou.
He first held a meeting at the Town Hall with the Mayor of Pavlou Mela Dimitris Aslanidis, who raised priority issues for the region, with emphasis on infrastructure and the daily life of citizens. At the same time, he informed about the projects already underway, such as the new school units and interventions through the “Marietta Giannakou” programme, stressing the importance of cooperation with the State.
Then Papageorgiou toured the premises of the Metropolitan Park, an environmental upgrade project worth more than 12 million euros, whose works are in the final stretch, with a target opening in June 2026. He also visited the A2 and A3 Stratonismos buildings, where important administrative and cultural uses are being developed, including the Thessaloniki Metro Finds Museum, a project worth more than 11 million euros.
In his remarks, Papageorgiou noted that the Pavlos Melas Metropolitan Park is “a project of substance for western Thessaloniki” and transforms a derelict site into a place of life, greenery and culture. “The government of the New Democracy, with Kyriakos Mitsotakis as Prime Minister, is emphasizing western Thessaloniki, with interventions that for years were left behind and are now moving forward,” he said. He described as decisive the contribution of the Ministry of Culture and Minister Lina Mendoni, with significant cultural investments within the Park and the exploitation of historic buildings, adding that the sustainability of the project is ensured, with annual funding of 700,000 euros from the Ministry of Interior for its maintenance.
The coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Office referred to other projects that are progressing in the Municipality of Pavlos Melas, such as the new Oncology Hospital in the former Karatasiou camp, the promotion of the suburban forest of Evkarpia and the completion of new school buildings.
