In the custody of the Hellenic Police is a 35-year-old Bulgarian man who was arrested last Saturday night in Thessaloniki on charges of espionage.
The case came to light following a report by a citizen in eastern Thessaloniki, who informed the authorities that the man was flying a remote-controlled unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) in the area. Officers from the DI.AS. Unit located him and, upon inspection, determined that he did not possess the required pilot’s license.
The drone was found in his vehicle, and an examination of the material stored in its memory revealed a thermal image of the facilities of the former Farmaki military camp in Kalamaria.
A case file has been compiled against the 35-year-old, and he is expected to be brought before the competent prosecutor.
