The end of the New Left’s CO – The dissolution was announced in Parliament

The statements of withdrawal from the parliamentary group of the New Left, of Mr. Haritsis, Nassos Iliopoulos, D. Tzanakopoulos, Ch. Zeybek, Meropi Tzoufi and Theano Fotiou. Tomorrow, the resignation of Mrs. Efi Achtsioglou is expected to be announced.

“In accordance with the provisions of article 15, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Parliament’s rules, there is no longer a parliamentary group “New Left”. The aforementioned deputies do not belong to any parliamentary group and are considered independent,” said the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Yannis Plakiotakis.

It is noted that now, the parliamentary groups are reduced to seven (from eight), namely ND, PASOK, SYRIZA, KKE, Hellenic Solution, “Niki” and Eleftherias Eleftherias. Also, the number of MPs who left their parties and became independent is now 39. That number is expected to reach 40, as Ms. Achtsioglou has said she will give up her seat, and her deputy on the SYRIZA ticket for the June 2023 elections, Yannis Dragasakis, is expected to declare himself “independent” as well.

In her intervention, the President of the Eleftherias Party’s COO, Zoe Konstantopoulou, expressed her regret for the dissolution of the New Left Party: “We regret that a parliamentary group of the opposition, the parliamentary group of the New Left, has been dissolved. It is not a gain for democracy [. . . .] and it should also give citizens pause for thought. Who are they and why are they plotting the disintegration of the opposition?

There are two: Mitsotakis and Tsipras are named, who are trying, at all costs, to raise a completely collapsed Prime Minister, who he knows has collapsed, to restore him as unique, where only he exists and opposite him is chaos, and, who are those who are trying and assisting in reinforcing that opposite him there is nothing and no one? It is disturbing what is happening, it is deeply undemocratic, by a former Prime Minister who violated both his mandate as Prime Minister and his mandate as Leader of the Opposition from ’19 to ’23 and that is why he was voted out, and of course the mission of the opposition and the opposition because that is the mandate he got in 2023 as well.

It is unprecedented to try to dismantle the opposition inside parliament. This has nothing to do with news, politics or democracy. It has to do with serving the darkest interests, and of course Mr Mitsotakis himself.”
