The 37-year-old man was arrested following a joint operation by the Anti-Terrorism Service (ATF).) and the National Intelligence Service (NIS), after exploiting information indicating his links to persons recently questioned by authorities in another European country for terrorism.

The man faces serious charges of joining Hamas, receiving training and traveling for the organization’s purposes, and working and living in Crete.

Authorities found that he had placed an online order for explosives.

During police searches atthe apartment he was using in America Square and at homes in Crete, digital and laboratory findings were seized.

In particular, mobile phone devices, a laptop computer, portable data storage devices, banking cards, and specialised laboratory equipment such as a precision analytical balance and a laboratory magnetic stirrer with a heated plate were identified. The seized items have already been taken to forensic laboratories for further analysis.
