A total of 64 agroforestry fires have occurred in the last 48 hours in different parts of the country.

According to the first available data, the vast majority of the fires appear to have been caused by negligence while carrying out work or other activities in the countryside, the Fire Service said. At the same time, the relevant investigative services of the Fire Service are investigating all incidents in order to establish the exact causes and assign the prescribed responsibilities where they arise.

As noted by the Fire Brigade, the high temperatures that have prevailed in recent days have favoured the start and rapid spread of fires, however, as underlined, “thanks to the immediate mobilisation and effective intervention of the fire brigades, most fires have been dealt with at their initial stage, without threatening residential areas”.

It is recalled that a total of 402 administrative fines, totalling 383, have been imposed between January 1 and June 7, 2026.397.05 euros, while 71 arrests have been made in the context of the spontaneous procedure for violations of the legislation related to the causing of fires.

Finally, the Fire Brigade strongly recommends that all citizens exercise maximum caution when carrying out any activity in the countryside. “Most fires are preventable. Everyone’s caution is crucial to protect human life, property and the natural environment,” the Fire Department notes.
