A clear message with many recipients from Thanos Plevris on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s phrase to “sweat the jersey”
The Minister of Immigration and Asylum, speaking to Actoin24, was asked to answer whether he was “sweating the jersey”, as urged by Prime Minister Plevris. Mitsotakis, noted that “this is judged by the citizens. For me, of course, “sweating the jersey” for a deputy or for a minister is that you will appear, as we are here, not only in the periods when the polls are good and we have a very successful government work and we are going to present it, but you will also appear when there are difficult periods, which all governments have difficult periods and you have to explain to the citizens mistakes that have been made and how they will be corrected.”
.
Responding to a question on whether there are Ministers in hiding, Th. Plevris noted that “everyone will judge for themselves. I believe that a minister cannot come out just for his portfolio. I have never in my life ever gone to say “guys let’s talk about immigration” because we are political figures.”
“We have to go on panels”
“Going into the election we have to go on panels as well. I am one of those who have always said that a minister, especially when he is also a member of parliament, does not cease to have his parliamentary status,” Plevris said, while asked if there are “two-speed” ministers, he said that “everyone has a different portfolio and a different character.”
“In other words, a job done by one person cannot be done respectively by another. What I am saying is that entering the last year of governance – and this applies to MPs and ministers and prominent officials – that obviously in seven years there are difficult moments, it is now time in this last phase, because when elections come, the politician himself is interested in his image and when you come out on difficult issues you may displease some people, so in this phase we all have to burn any capital we may have in order to move the party forward,” he noted, adding:
“It is not personalised it is a position of principle. Let’s go sweat the jersey more. This is for all of us.”
