Stelios Petsas made it clear that he does not intend to vote in favour of lifting the immunity of New Democracy MPs included in the OPEKEPE file.

Talking to Alpha 98.9 on Friday morning (17/04), he stressed that he considers such a generalised decision legally unfounded, citing the relevant provision of Article 62 of the Constitution. “I will not vote for the lifting of immunity for all colleagues, as I consider it legally untenable,” he said.

However, he did not elaborate on specific cases, noting that he does not accept the logic of grouping. He said it was one thing for a member of parliament to ask for a waiver of immunity for reasons of political transparency and another for others to be obliged to ignore the Constitution and laws.

Asked about the scope of his stance, he reiterated that “I will not vote collectively for the waivers of immunity,” leaving open the possibility of considering each case individually.
