The proposal of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the members of the New Democracy party for the revision of the provisions of the Constitution, in accordance with articles 110 of the Constitution and 119 of the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, was announced in the Plenary Session of the Parliament.
This coming Wednesday, June 10, 2026, the Speaker of the House, Nikitas Kaklamanis, will announce the formation of the envisaged Constitution Review Committee, which will have 42 members and is expected to have a bipartisan bureau. At the same meeting, the deadline (two months) for the submission of the Constitution Review Commission’s report will be set.
According to Article 110 of the Constitution:
1. The provisions of the Constitution shall be subject to revision, except for those that determine the basis and form of the constitution as a Presidential Parliamentary Republic, and from the provisions of Articles 2(1), 4(1), 4 and 7, 5(1) and (3), 13(1) and 26.
2. The need to revise the Constitution shall be established by a decision of the Parliament taken, on the proposal of at least 50 Members of Parliament, by a majority of three-fifths of the total number of its members in two votes at least one month apart. This decision shall specifically specify the provisions to be revised.
3. After the revision has been decided by Parliament, the next Parliament, at its first session, shall decide by an absolute majority of the whole number of its members on the provisions to be revised.
4. If the proposal to revise the Constitution has received a majority of the total number of deputies, but not a majority of three-fifths of the total number of deputies in accordance with paragraph 2, the next Parliament, at its first session, may decide on the provisions to be revised by a majority of three-fifths of the total number of its members.

5. Any enacted revision of provisions of the Constitution shall be published in the Government Gazette within ten days after being voted on by the Parliament and shall enter into force by special resolution of the Parliament.
6. No revision of the Constitution shall be allowed before five years have elapsed since the previous one.
