“Here in Evros, there is an air that fills you with confidence and, dare I say, national pride,” said the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, from the “5” Outpost in the area of Nea Vyssa, Evros, where he spent the night last night.
“We are at the “5” Outpost of the Greek-Turkish border in the prefecture of Evros. This Outpost is located at one of the most advanced points of our border and the mission of the Outpost is to protect and monitor the border,” the President of the Republic said, adding:
“I had the opportunity to spend 12 hours here, along with the enlisted men and officers, to stay overnight, to talk with them, to experience a little bit of the way they spend their time and perform their high duties. The demands on this outpost are very high. Therefore, the sense of responsibility that prevails and is pervasive is also equally high.
This morning, Sunday, we watched the Greek flag being raised early. We, like our enlisted men and our officers, felt that pride, that exhilaration of spirit that is felt here by our Greek soldiers.

Not all parts of Greece are the same. Here in Evros, there is an air that fills you with confidence and, dare I say, national pride. The guys who serve with their officers understand what their mission is by the look in their eyes. They see the border, they see Turkey in very close proximity and they see the space that they have to guard. And I assure you, they guard it with integrity, with responsibility, with tenacity, with virtue, and with a sense of their historic mission.
Here on Evros, the Greek flag flies differently. The Greek flag meets the wind of Greece and proudly shows everyone that any challenge and any threat will not pass.
As I have said before, our borders, fortunately, are in very good hands.
Mr. Tassoulas arrived late yesterday afternoon at Outpost “5”, accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, and the Commander of the Supreme Military Command of Thrace, Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos, and was received by the Commander of the XVI Mechanized Infantry Division of Didymoteicho, Major General Panteleimon Vassiliadis.
