Funding for the public contribution to the five PPP irrigation projects is secured, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said in response to reports.

Specifically, the ministry notes that the implementation of the five major irrigation projects through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) is proceeding normally, without any risk to their execution and completion. Despite the withdrawal of the public financial contribution from the Recovery and Resilience Fund, the required public funding totalling €157.4 million has already been secured through the PPP Special Programme, fully ensuring the continuation and uninterrupted implementation of the projects.

The projects that are continuing on track are:

1. Rehabilitation and modernization of the irrigation networks of the Local Organization for the Improvement of Agriculture (TOEB) of Tavropou.

2. Transport and distribution of water from the river Nestos to the plain of Xanthi.

3. Irrigation network of the Yperia region of Larissa – Orfanes region of Karditsa.

4. Design, construction, financing, maintenance and operation of Minagiotiko dam.

5. Chochlakia reservoir and associated works – St. John’s Dam of Ierapetra and basic irrigation water utilization projects.

According to the ministry, this development confirms the state’s firm commitment to moving forward without delay critical infrastructure that enhances agricultural production, sustainable water resource management and regional development.

The five PPP irrigation projects are strategic interventions of high importance for the primary sector and local communities, contributing to the modernisation of irrigation infrastructure, reducing water losses, improving energy efficiency and enhancing the resilience of agricultural production to the impacts of the climate crisis.

The government, the ministry’s statement concludes, remains committed to the implementation of important development infrastructure with secured funding and a long-term positive impact on the economy, the region and the country’s rural population.
