Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took the floor of the plenary session of the House of Representatives, as part of his tripartite speech on the debate on the rule of law.

The Prime Minister began by wishing George Mylonakis a speedy recovery, and then referred to the OPEKEPE case, asking the European Public Prosecutor’s Office to proceed immediately to a full investigation of the cases, without – as he said – selective leaks.

Mitsotakis stressed that Greece remains firmly within the European framework and underlined that neither the government nor himself are being blackmailed by interests. Referring to the elections, he noted that polls show a lead for New Democracy.

He placed particular emphasis on the constitutional revision, noting that the relevant debate is expected to start in May and will involve some 25 articles. Among the issues he raised for discussion include:

  • The inclusion of reports on artificial intelligence and citizen protection
  • The revision of Article 16
  • The affordable housing provision
  • The regulation of political parties
  • Change in the electoral law and possible introduction of a mixed electoral system

At the same time, he commented on the attitude of other political figures, such as Zoe Konstantopoulou and Alexis Tsipras, criticizing their rhetoric and interventions.
