Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis responded again, through the cabinet, to criticisms of the executive state voiced by five New Democracy MPs.

In his opening statement, he stressed that the active participation of MPs is a key element of the government’s approach to strengthening their role as representatives of their regions. He noted that their contribution is already evident, particularly in the consultation on issues concerning mountain and island regions.

He also stressed that the aim is for parliamentarians to have an essential role in the formulation of policies related to the development of their regions, by actively participating in the design and maturation of relevant initiatives.

Referring to the “executive state”, he clarified that it refers exclusively to the executive and not the legislative, pointing out the clear distinction of responsibilities. At the same time, he reiterated that the responsibilities of the government and parliament are clearly defined by the Constitution.

However, he pointed out that in this case, close cooperation between the government and parliamentarians becomes particularly important, especially in the context of the elaboration and implementation of specific political projects.
