Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with a delegation of the Panhellenic Association of Paraplegics at the Maximou Mansion today, as part of the government’s contacts with bodies representing people with disabilities.

During the meeting with the President of the Association, Athanasios Vigla, and the members of the delegation, a review of government interventions to support people with disabilities was held, with particular emphasis on the “Personal Assistant” programme.

The meeting discussed the already initiated expansion of the program on a permanent basis, with funding from the regular budget, to cover people with disabilities over the age of 65. The measure is considered crucial to enhance independent living and daily support for beneficiaries.

At the same time, issues were raised concerning the further strengthening of social benefits for people with disabilities, with special reference to the needs of people with paraplegia and quadriplegia.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michailidou, the Minister of State, Akis Skirtsos, and the Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Thanos Petralias.
