Kyriakos Mitsotakis, together with his daughter Sophia, spoke with the elderly, who thanked him for the upgraded care that the Nursing Home now provides them and the actions that have been taken to improve their daily life, in a green area of 60 acres in the centre of Athens.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michaelidou, was briefed by the President of the Nursing Home, Spyros Hamakiotis, on the work of the administration, which, in cooperation with the government, is already moving towards the consolidation of the institution’s finances and the renovation of its facilities, in order to further improve the conditions of hospitality and to increase the number of elderly people it cares for, and had the opportunity to visit the renovated kitchens.
Today, after the renovation projects that have been implemented in recent years, the nursing home accommodates 185 elderly people, 80 more than before, while the reconstruction of two other wings that the administration is launching will allow the hospitality of an additional 80 people. Prospectively, with the completion of all the projects, the plan is to accommodate 500 seniors.
“I want to wish you from the bottom of my heart a Happy Resurrection, Happy Birthday. I want to tell you how happy I am to be with you today on this holy day, because I want my visit to be seen as a message of support to the management of the Old People’s Home and to the Ministry for the really great work that is being done here.”
“To create the best aged care structure in the country”
“I can see it in your smiles that you are in a safe place, a place where you are cared for, a place where you are having a good time and you feel that there are people who care about you. And we are a government that cares first and foremost about those who need it most,” he added.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis assured that the government will provide the necessary funding for the implementation of the necessary projects and the upgrading of the services provided so that the Athens Nursing Home will be the best elderly care structure in the country.
“So I would like to tell you, Mr. President, that I will personally work – and take this as a commitment – in order to secure all those funds, and for the sake of speed, we will make sure that we will probably do it through private donations. After all, this is an area which by history has been identified with private donations.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Athens Nursing Home and exchanged Easter wishes and gifts with the elderly and staff, Great Thursday, April 9, 2026.
You should know that our goal-and we will achieve it, because when we set a goal we achieve it-is to repair all the buildings of the Home for the Aged, to bring it up to 500 people, to unleash the full potential of this amazing place. Consider that we have almost 60 acres in the centre of Athens. It’s a unique space.
