The opening of applications for the Neighborhood Nannies on Friday, April 24, 2026, and the digital empowerment program in which 6 are already participating.500 elderly and people with disabilities, was mentioned today by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michaelidou, speaking to the TV station MEGA.
In the area of facilitating working parents, Ms. Michaelidou discussed the universal implementation of the Nanny Neighbourhood programme, describing it as a “tool for life” that answers the critical issue of time management. The measure, which is now being implemented across the country, focuses on caring for infants from 2 months to 2.5 years old and is a key pillar for reconciling family and work life, offering parents a reliable solution that fills the gap in nursery places.
As for the targeting of income criteria, the minister said: “For Neighbourhood Nannies we have formulated fairer criteria. For one child, the mother’s personal income can be up to 24,000 euros, for two children up to 27,000 euros, while for families with three or more children we are completely abolishing the income limits. This ensures that the monthly financial support (voucher) of €500 for parents in full-time employment and €300 for those in part-time employment is targeted to where there is a need.” At the same time, he stressed that the process is fully safeguarded, as the payment of caregivers is made at the end of each month through an employer’s stamp covered by the state.
Michaelidou made it clear that the safety of infants is a non-negotiable priority.”Infant carers, female students, but also close family members such as grandmothers, grandfathers or aunts have the right to apply,” she said. He said that certified caregivers undergo rigorous health checks, criminal record checks and first aid training, in cooperation with the Hellenic Red Cross and the Greek National Health Service.
Special mention was made of the Digital Empowerment (All Digital) programme, which is an essential intervention to eliminate digital inequality. The measure envisages the acquisition of practical skills for the autonomous use of digital services by 6,500 older people and persons with disabilities through an expanded network of 200 hubs across the country.
Beneficiaries learn how to use gov.gr for their transactions with the government, how to access their bank’s e-banking, and how to do their own supermarket shopping.
The Minister underlined that the Government remains committed to creating a strong safety net for the family and society, investing in actions that enhance the equal participation of all citizens in work and daily life.
