Secretary of the Political Committee of New Democracy, Stelios Kontadakis, speaking today at the 16th Congress of the party, gave a clear pre-election and organisational outline for the party’s course until the 2027 national elections. At the same time, he set 2030 as a strategic horizon, while he linked the government’s work of the last six years with the need for political continuity and stability, stressing that New Democracy is the only force that can guarantee the smooth course of the country in an environment of international crises and geopolitical turbulence.

He said that all this creates new jobs, boosts regional development and makes Greece an attractive investment destination. At the same time, he also highlighted the government’s social footprint, with references to supporting the weakest social groups, people with disabilities and vulnerable families.

With regard to defence and foreign policy issues, he stressed that Greece is no longer simply monitoring developments but is actively participating in them, with strong alliances, a strengthened Armed Forces and an increased international footprint. He added that political stability at home is inextricably linked to the strengthening of the country’s geopolitical position.

Referring to the opposition and the stakes of the next elections, the secretary of the South-Western party’s PA accused the opposition parties of populism, toxicity, ambiguity and proposals without costing or strategic depth, warning that the country cannot return “to times of experimentation”. He posed the dilemma of “stability or adventure”, saying that Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ third term in office is a necessary condition for maintaining the political and economic achievements of recent years.

At the same time, he placed particular emphasis on the organisational reconstruction of the party. He spoke about the strengthening of local organisations, the emergence of new cadres, political training and the use of digital tools and Artificial Intelligence. His message was that New Democracy is now entering full electoral readiness, aiming for a new strong mandate in 2027 and a Greece “more productive, more competitive and more modern” by 2030.

He also noted that there is no room for resting, as the third term of the Southwest is presented as necessary – as he said – in order not to lose the conquests of recent years.

According to Mr. Kontadakis, the congress marks “the beginning of the battle for the next national elections, with ND united, renewed and ready to claim a new strong mandate under Kyriakos Mitsotakis.”
