The strategic partnership between Greece and France is on track for expansion, according to a Bloomberg report.
The two countries’ defense agreement, signed in 2021, is expected to be extended for another five years, confirming the strong framework of cooperation between Athens and Paris.
In this context, French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit Athens after the EU summit.EU summit in Cyprus on April 24, where he will meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to formally ratify the agreement.
In parallel, the two sides plan to sign additional agreements that will strengthen cooperation in areas such as foreign policy, civil protection and the economy.
The renewal of the agreement comes at a time of heightened geopolitical challenges, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, developments in the Middle East and general instability in international relations.
According to the same sources, the provision of an automatic renewal clause is also being considered to ensure the long-term continuity of the Greek-French strategic partnership.
