The Minister of Health responded to the complaints about the on-call situation and the images of the cots at the Attikon University General Hospital with a post on X.

The controversy was sparked by the post of user John Toyp, who posted a video of patients on cots in the hospital’s corridors, bringing the long-standing problem at West Attica’s largest hospital back into focus.

Adonis Georgiades responded by noting that these images are not something new, but a situation that has been recorded for about twenty years.

“I have explained a hundred times that at the ATTIKON Hospital this image with the cots has existed for 20 years. Mainly because of the high attendance there. I have also explained that I set out to eliminate this problem as well, for which none of my predecessors could find a solution. So now we have two projects underway (one the new doctors’ dorms, two the expansion of Pathology to Infectious Disease) that in 1.5 years (they don’t get done any faster) will add +162 beds to the on-call roster so we won’t have cots. So any picture like the one shown by this gentleman and the media and others just confirms the correctness of my decisions to complete these projects. I am not responsible for these images but I provided the solution. Get well soon,” the Health Minister wrote.
