The political controversy surrounding the Androulakis family’s property in Heraklion, Crete, was continued on Friday morning by Health Minister Adonis Georgiades, in response to the statements made by the PASOK president the previous evening.
Talking to Action 24, Mr. Georgiades argued that Nikos Androulakis is attempting to downplay the case, citing “false allegations” about the amount of revenue from the lease of the property to the state.
The Health Minister said the contract is for a monthly rent of about 10,000 euros, noting that the Androulakis family secured the deal in 2010, under the PASOK government. At the same time, he disputed the claim that the process had been completed by the Karamanlis government, noting that the final signing of the contract took place after the 2009 elections.
Georgiadis also claimed that a cheaper bid for the same property was rejected, citing “blatant favour” to the PASOK president’s family.
The spikes in the process
According to the minister, the evaluation committee had rejected a proposal of 7,500 euros, choosing the Androulakis family’s offer of 10,500 euros per month.
He stressed that he does not intend to take legal action against Nikos Androulakis, but accused the PASOK president of “not being able to wag his finger”, citing a “moral issue” surrounding his relationship with the public sector.
Androulakis’ response
For his part, Nikos Androulakis called Adonis Georgiades’ reports “slanderous” and claimed that the leasing process began and was completed in 2009 under the government of Kostas Karamanlis.
According to the PASOK president, the renewals of the contract were done unilaterally by the State, as there was no other property available that met the required specifications.
000 euros per month after tax, and stressed that his family did not receive any government funding for renovation of the building.
