Former Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem referred to Yanis Varoufakis while speaking in the SKY documentary “In the Millionth”, based on the book by journalists Eleni Varvitsiotis and Viktoria Dendrinou.

He noted that the Greek Finance Minister at the time made the situation difficult, with many people trying to prevent him from coming to Greece:

“There was one difference that made the situation difficult. There was a young man saying we were all crazy and how the approach we’ve had over the last few years was wrong. So some of my colleagues advised me not to go to Athens.”

In fact, Mr. Dijsselbloem spoke of a strange climate in the Finance Ministry. He was surprised that the corridors were empty, and claimed that Yanis Varoufakis told him he would fire 300 ministry employees:

“We exchanged friendly words and got to know each other. Something that surprised me and I still remember is how he said he was going to fire 300 people. I’m not sure of the number, but he said he was going to fire hundreds of ministry employees because they are not trustworthy. It struck me that the hallways were empty, so maybe he had already fired them all. Very strange atmosphere.”
