Costas Bakoyannis launched a frontal attack on Charis Doukas, on the occasion of the completion of the redevelopment of Vasilissis Olgas. The former mayor of Athens chose to promote the project launched during his days, while accusing the current mayor of political inconsistency.
Specifically, in a post on social media, Kostas Bakoyannis noted: “The project of the redevelopment of Vasilissis Olga, Mr. Dukas ridiculed it, mocked it, fought it and of course did not implement it, since it was done by the Redevelopment SA and not the Municipality of Athens. But now he likes it and is promoting it. Populism before, populism after. Words of the air. Fortunately, however, the projects remain.”
At the same time, Bakoyannis posted a video of the reshaped road, stating: “Vasilissis Olgas, as we dreamed and routed it, is finally open again. Not just a street. A new vibrant public space. Come and discover it.”
The handover of Vasilissis Olgas Avenue to the public was officially held today, 7 April 2026. After work that took nearly six years, the avenue was transformed into a modern, traffic-free space, creating a single promenade connecting the Temple of Olympian Zeus with Zappeion and the National Garden.
The project of the redevelopment of Vasilissis Olga was ridiculed, mocked, fought and of course not implemented by Mr. Dukas, since it was done by Anaplanisi SA and not the Municipality of Athens.
But now, he likes it and advertises it. Populism before, populism after. Words of the air. Fortunately…
