Relatives, friends, and local residents bid farewell to the two victims, still unable to believe the tragedy that unfolded.
The 54-year-old woman’s 65-year-old partner is accused of the double homicide; who has been arrested and is expected to appear again before the investigating judge at the Aigio Courthouse.
“I was completely taken aback; I couldn’t believe it,” said a relative of the unfortunate woman outside the church, adding that he knew the couple to have a peaceful relationship. When asked about the possible causes of the tragedy, he remarked: “They took those secrets with them. It’s a tragedy.”
Meanwhile, police authorities are continuing their investigation, awaiting crucial results from forensic examinations that are expected to shed more light on the circumstances of the crime.
According to the evidence so far, the 26-year-old sustained injuries from an air gun, while authorities are examining whether traces of gunpowder have been found on the body of the 65-year-old defendant.
Meanwhile, the results of the analysis of genetic material collected from the 54-year-old woman’s fingernails are pending, in order to determine whether a struggle took place prior to her fatal injury.
Investigators believe that the findings so far strengthen the case against the 65-year-old, while there is no evidence of a third party’s involvement or of a break-in at the scene.
A laptop found in the home during the murder is also at the center of the investigation. According to reports, a fingerprint containing the 54-year-old woman’s blood was found on the laptop.
