A survey of the affected areas of North Evia, following the earthquakes that occurred in the region today, was carried out today by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Evangelos Tournas, accompanied by the Secretary General for Natural Disaster Rehabilitation and State Relief Petros Kabouris, in order to be informed about the impact of the seismic activity in the region.

As stated in a statement by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, starting tomorrow morning, two teams of the General Directorate for Natural Disaster Rehabilitation (G.D.D.E.F.K.) will carry out inspections in Prokopi and Dafnousa at the affected houses, with the aim of immediately recording the damage and rapidly promoting the planned rehabilitation procedures.

Affected people, as highlighted in the announcement, will be able to proceed with the procedures for the granting of the basic necessities of life allowance and the ecopackaging allowance, in accordance with the current institutional framework.

“We came here today, together with the Secretary General for Natural Disaster Recovery and State Relief, to meet with the local government, to do a first autopsy and to get a basic understanding of what has happened, what damage has been done to the villages of North Evia and what we can do to help the people who live here.

First of all, we are in constant communication with the scientific teams of the National Observatory and the Geodynamic Institute, who are monitoring the phenomenon and need about 24 hours to have a more secure picture of what has happened,” said the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Evangelos Tournas, adding that until then “restraint and caution are needed”.

“Homes that appear to be damaged should not be occupied today. The residents will have to find alternatives and the presidents of the communities, in collaboration with the mayor, have already arranged for their accommodation,” the minister noted, stressing that the G.D.A.E.F.C. crews will begin inspections starting tomorrow morning. “Two committees will be here to record, in collaboration with local stakeholders, the damage caused and initiate the necessary actions to help these people very soon to get back to the rhythm of their daily lives,” he concluded.

It is noted that during his visit, the minister went to Prokopi and Dafnousa, where he met with the deputy mayor of Evia, Giorgos Kelaiditis, the deputy mayor of Limni-Mantoudi Evmorfia Paschalidou, the Deputy Mayor of Civil Protection of the Municipality Argyris Liasko, the Deputy Mayor of Sanitation Dimitris Skopelitis, the President of the Community of Prokopios Apostolos Halioulas and the Head of Civil Protection of the Municipality Nikos Skoumpris.
