The Minister of State for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, responsible for State Aid, referred to his experience of working directly with local communities throughout Greece following natural disasters, Costas Katsafados, Minister of State for Civil Protection and State Aid, at a conference of the Association of Mayors of Attica on the Environment and Sustainable Cities, with the main theme “Climate Crisis, Civil Protection and State Aid – From Prevention and Operational Preparedness to Recovery and Resilience of Local Communities”. Katsafados also underlined his close cooperation with mayors, regional governors, local authorities and productive actors to strengthen the resilience of cities and support citizens,
In his speech, he stressed that State Relief is entering a new digital era, with the use of modern technologies, data and artificial intelligence.
As he said, State Aid aims to create a modern framework “that enhances direct communication with the citizen and rapid processing of data, provides personalised, interactive and easily accessible support and contributes substantially to reducing bureaucracy and speeding up the damage restoration processes”.
The Deputy Minister stressed that the digitisation of State Aid is not a technocratic approach, “but a profoundly political choice, with a focus on people: the citizen who has suffered, the professional who is affected, and the local community that needs quick and effective support”.
As Mr. Katsafados, the next generation of resilience and smart cities will emerge “from the close connection between human needs and modern technological tools, forming the basis for the future strategy of Civil Protection and State Aid.”
