Former MP Eleni Avlonitou has announced her departure from SYRIZA.
“As of today, I no longer belong to SYRIZA-PS. I have been on the left and in the field of struggles for democracy, national sovereignty, social emancipation and the elimination of social inequalities since my student days,” Ms Avlonitou wrote.
Everything indicates that Eleni Avlonitou is heading towards the party of Alexis Tsipras. After all, she was present at the former Prime Minister’s event in Chalandri, and through her post she speaks of a “new beginning”.

Alexis Tsipras is due to announce the new party on May 26 at Thiseio.

“Dear friends,
As of today I no longer belong to SYRIZA-PS.
I have been on the left and in the field of struggles for democracy, national sovereignty, social emancipation and the elimination of social inequalities since my student days.
Of course, these struggles do not stop with my resignation today as a member of the Central Committee, but also from the party itself, which I have served with dedication for over three decades. They will continue with the same enthusiasm of my early youth because I feel that I owe it to the young children who are up in arms about the living conditions we hand over to them to live in. I accept my fair share of responsibility.
I want to thank from the bottom of my heart all of you who have honoured me over the years in various positions of responsibility, both within the party and in society. I want you to know that I have always done even more than what I could to serve you, guided by my democratic principles and my deep solidarity with my fellow human beings, which I learned from my home and my teachers.
New beginnings then new struggles! We will meet again soon!”
