The President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, in her address to the 16th Congress of the New Democracy, said: “these are difficult times for Europe. The world around us is less predictable, less stable and less forgiving. Every week brings a new test. However, I remain optimistic. Because when I sit around the European table and see leaders like Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, I see the clarity and determination that circumstances demand.”
“I am grateful that I can call Kyriakos a friend. And one of the things that I have always distinguished about him is not only his progressive mindset, but also the forthrightness and courage with which he makes decisions. I rely on him. It is not easy to forget how far Greece has come in recent years. Your people have gone through extremely difficult times,” he added.
Metsola stressed that under the leadership of Kyriakos Mitsotakis over the past seven years, your country has achieved an impressive transformation through extensive economic and social reforms. “You have turned the country into an example of best practice on so many levels, while reaffirming Greece’s commitment to European values. This commitment is also reflected in the work of Greek MEPs in the European Parliament, who work tirelessly for the interests of Greek citizens and to strengthen Greece’s voice in Europe,” he said.
He also noted that Greece’s economy is currently growing faster than the eurozone average. “Unemployment has fallen below 10%. Thanks to the investments you have made, Greece is now a critical energy hub and a key pillar of European security and stability in the Mediterranean,” he said.
“And with Greece back at the heart of Europe, I have no doubt that we will succeed. I wish you a successful conference, full of constructive discussions, new ideas and a common vision for shaping the future.”
