Socrates Famellos suddenly removed Pavlos Polakis from the SYRIZA CO yesterday, after a prolonged period of introspection in Koumoundourou.
The Polakis-Famello clash is expected to act as a catalyst for developments, while the left is waiting for Alexis Tsipras’s party to announce its position.
Following his deletion, Pavlos Polakis noted in a post:
“I broke the world record!!! Three Presidents in a row have expelled me from the Parliamentary Group.(!!!!) The last one, with ABSOLUTELY NO JUSTIFICATION!!!
He allows his MPs to declare that they have moved to another party, or his executives to pretend to be press representatives of another party, and he dares to expel me from the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group because I have been asking for days for the Political Secretariat to meet to make decisions!!!
He’s taking me out of the Parliamentary Group WITHOUT any notice before, just like the last one!
THE PEOPLE WILL JUDGE US ALL IN THE END!!! As they judged the previous presidents and me!!! See you at the Political Secretariat!!!

Earlier in a statement, SYRIZA President Socrates Famellos explained the reasons for Pavlos Polakis’ removal, noting:
“The offensive and aggressive post of Pavlos Polakis cannot be tolerated. The obscene implication that I have a hidden agenda and serve interests and decisions that have not been taken in the collective organs is absolutely untenable and unacceptable.
Pavlos Polakis speaks of ‘voicelessness’ and ‘lack of initiative’ in the week that I and my comrades stood by the workers at the People’s Hospital, we made a visit to Lesvos for foot-and-mouth disease, we met with the Panhellenic Nurses’ Trade Union Federation, I made two speeches in Parliament, we met with the PDO-OTA in support of the workers and the local authorities. While in the same week I made it clear in a statement that SYRIZA-PS is ready to contribute to a united progressive response, which is urgent to get this disastrous government out as soon as possible.
The SYRIZA-PS at the last Central Committee, with an overwhelming majority, decided that the only perspective is the reconstitution and unity of the progressive space, not lonely paths and entrenchment. I insist on this choice and strive for its success, because this is also the social demand.
I will not allow personal strategies and rumours to overshadow the seriousness and consistency of the party and its collective decisions in pursuit of a different political project.
