“New Democracy is a party that took social policy seriously. We have been practicing social policy actively, not passively, since 2019,” said the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domna Michaelidou, during her speech at the 16th New Democracy Conference.
“They are good benefits. We need the allowances, we need the financial aids, but we are not the party that sticks to them alone. We are the party that created new tools and we created them thanks to all of you. And because we listened to you, we were the first to create the personal assistant for people with disabilities. We were the first to create Neighborhood Nannies and Granny Nannies, who are here to serve all the families, all the moms, all the dads, all the seniors, all the households that have People with Disabilities in them and need an extra hand of their own help, their own choice,” he noted.
“We are the party that because they listened they made the disability card, the dignity card. So that our fellow citizens who are in a wheelchair can move around without constantly opening files to prove their disability. It’s a dignity card,” he added.
On family support measures, the minister said: “We are the party that has strengthened the family with daycare centres like no other party before. So that families, through income, can have access, can have funding to daycare centers.”
The government was the largest government in the country like never before.
“We are the party that made de-institutionalization a reality. That half the children in institutions are now in families. And we are both excited and proud of that,” he noted to add: “We are the party that has enabled 30,000 families to get their own home by giving the bank less money than they would have paid in rent. We are now starting the social consideration and we thank the Armed Forces for giving up inactive camps to make 2,300 homes.”
Finally, speaking about demographics, Michailidou said it is at the top of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ political agenda, stressing that “he has created a ministry for demographics, for the Greek family, because New Democracy knows that it must work hard for everyone and above all for the Greek family.”
