Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, along with Deputy Minister, Nikos Tsafos, will travel to Nicosia to attend the Informal Council of EU Energy Ministers, scheduled for today 12 and tomorrow 13 May.
The discussions will focus on the balance between the use of Renewable Energy Sources and natural gas, as well as the promotion of energy interconnections, in order to achieve an integrated energy model for Europe, combining carbonisation with security of supply and system resilience.
Ministers will also highlight their immediate priorities for joint European action under the AccelerateEU initiative to address energy price volatility, enhance energy security and accelerate sustainable transition.
In addition, energy storage issues will be discussed, as well as the role of indigenous gas resources in stabilising prices and maintaining Europe’s energy sufficiency, especially in the context of strong fluctuations in the global LNG market.
Later today, a meeting on the Greece-Cyprus Electric Interconnection (GSI) will be held, which is expected to be attended by Minister Papastavrou and his Cypriot counterpart, Michalis Damianos, Deputy Minister Papastavrou and his Cypriot counterpart, Michalis Damianos. Mr. Dan Jorgensen, European Commissioner for Energy, Mr. Manos Manousakis, President and CEO of ADMIE (project promoter), Mr. Manos Manousakis and the Vice President of HEB, Mr. Ioannis Tsakiris.
