A teleconference of Lesbos’ farmers with the Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, Spyros Protopsaltis, is scheduled to take place today at noon on the request for vaccination in farms so that herds where positive cases of foot-and-mouth disease are recorded are not slaughtered after the sample checks carried out.

The next demand of the farmers, who yesterday continued their mobilisations with a gathering outside the General Secretariat of the Aegean and Island Policy and a symbolic blockade of the North Aegean Region, is the vaccination of animals instead of slaughtering them, in order to stop the zoonosis, as well as their immediate compensation. The farmers also complain of long delays in tracing the island.
