A disciplinary investigation is underway by the Interior Ministry into the swearing-in of Petros Konstantinos as a city councillor in the Municipality of Athens, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis told SKAI 100.3.
The minister described the incident as “unacceptable”, while criticizing the municipal authority of Charis Doukas for its attitude during the process. He noted that the Interior Ministry has already initiated the necessary procedures to examine whether the institutional framework of the swearing-in ceremony was violated.
The case caused political reactions, as the representative of the municipal party “Subversive Alliance for Athens” did not follow the standard oath to the Constitution and laws, but chose to read his own text during the ceremony.
According to Adonis Georgiades, the ministry’s competent services will examine what exactly is foreseen in similar cases and whether disciplinary responsibilities arise.
The text read by Petros Konstantinou during the swearing-in ceremony
“I declare in my honour and conscience that I will fight to defend the interests of workers, local and migrant, to overthrow the barbaric attack of government-capital-EU and imperialism. To put our lives above their profits! To end the wars and genocide in Gaza. To punish the murderers in Tempe, Pylos and “Violanda”. For freedom in Palestine and internationalist solidarity across borders.
For the liberation of Palestine and internationalist solidarity across borders.
For a society under the control of the workers, free from capitalist brutality and exploitation, poverty and oppression, with complete separation of Church and State. For a society without discrimination of race, gender, nation and religion. 82 years since the liberation of Athens from the Nazi occupation, honoring the dead of the Resistance, the 200 executed in Kaisariani, honoring Pavlos Fyssa, Sahzat Loukman and Alexis Grigoropoulos, I will fight for a city in harmony with social needs and the environment, with democracy, freedom, solidarity, without racism and neo-Nazis.”
