At a particularly critical juncture for the Middle East, Kyriakos Mitsotakis heads to Amman for the Greece-Cyprus-Jordan trilateral summit, sending a message of stability and an active diplomatic presence of Greece in the region.

The visit comes at a time when the fragile ceasefire in the Middle East is being tested, following the Prime Minister’s contacts in the United Arab Emirates. Government sources stress that his presence reinforces Greece’s role as a credible factor for stability and dialogue.

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Christodoulides and the King of Jordan are also attending the summit, with key issues on the agenda including developments in the Middle East, the situation in Lebanon and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf.

Special emphasis is also placed on strengthening economic cooperation between the three countries, as well as addressing common regional challenges.

The Prime Minister’s visit to the United Arab Emirates was also symbolic, as it was the first time a European Union leader had visited the country since the recent attacks on critical infrastructure. The Greek side expressed from the very first moment its condemnation of the attacks, reaffirming its support for the Gulf countries.

At the same time, Athens reiterates its firm position in favour of a diplomatic solution leading to a sustainable peace, with particular emphasis on ensuring freedom of navigation, especially in the Straits of Hormuz.
