Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to the 16th anniversary of the Marfin tragedy, where three employees lost their lives on 5 May 2010, stressing that this is an event that remains deeply engraved in the collective memory.

Reminded that Paraskevi Zoulia, pregnant Angeliki Papathanasopoulou and Epaminondas Tsakalis died inside the bank’s branch during the events of that period, noting that their loss is a “stark reminder of the consequences of hatred and blind violence”.

The Prime Minister stressed that the Marfin tragedy serves as a warning against divisive discourse and nihilism, which he said undermine social cohesion and democratic normality.

He concluded his message by stressing that it is a collective duty to preserve the memory of the victims, but also to prevent any effort that may lead to a repetition of similar phenomena of violence and destabilization.
