Kyriakos Mitsotakis hails the successful launch of the first Greek thermal satellites from California in a Facebook post, accompanying it with an impressive video.
“Greece takes another step into space today: with the launch of six new microsatellites – four thermal and two from the Hellenic Space Dawn mission – our national fleet now reaches 17 satellites in orbit, strengthening Civil Protection, climate resilience and putting our country at the “forefront” of European space technology,” the Prime Minister said.
As he points out, the National Microsatellite Programme, with a budget of around €200 million, is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund “Greece 2.0” and is being implemented in cooperation with ESA. The total of 17 Greek microsatellites offer multiple daily shots over the country, contributing to civil protection, environmental monitoring, rural development and national security.
At the same time, on the occasion of tomorrow’s visit of the European Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrews Kubilius, he notes that both the actions for the armouring of European territories and Greece’s important space programme will be discussed, in conjunction with the Govsatcom programme for secure European communications, of which a hub is being created in the country.
“We continue! With a plan, steady steps and determination we are building together the Greece of 2030,” he concludes in his post.
