Buckingham Palace announced today that King Charles and Queen Camilla’s four-day trip to the United States will go ahead as planned after an armed gunman stormed a dinner for the White House Correspondents’ Association in Washington, D.C., attended by President Donald Trump.

“Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic during the day and acting on the advice of the administration, we can confirm that the official visit of the royal couple will go ahead as planned,” a spokesman for the Palace said.

“The King and Queen are extremely grateful to everyone who has worked hard to ensure the trip goes ahead as planned and look forward to the visit starting tomorrow,” with President Trump and his wife Melania welcoming him to the White House.
