French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Athens on Friday afternoon (18:45), about an hour late due to the Informal Summit in Cyprus.

The French President was received by the Deputy Prime Minister, Kostis Hatzidakis, while Macron then went to the Roman Forum, where the scheduled discussion with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis took place, on the topic “Challenges for Europe: The Road to Tomorrow”.

After the event, a dinner hosted by the Greek Presidency followed, in the presence of around 100 guests from the political and business world.

The French President’s schedule continues on Saturday, with a visit to the frigate Kimon and then a meeting at the Maximou Mansion, where a five-year defence cooperation agreement between the two countries is expected to be signed.

The visit will conclude with joint statements to the media and a lunch hosted by the Greek Prime Minister in Macron’s honour.
