Adonis Georgiades referred to what the European Public Prosecutor said at the Delphi Forum in a post on social media.
“Those who expected that Ms. Covesi came to Delphi to bring down the government and Mitsotakis have once again gone, as they say, “into the bucket”. What she said was basically in favour of the government and the prime minister,” he noted.
As explained in detail:
- “agrees with Mitsotakis on expediting the review of cases involving political figures (so he has implicitly fully acknowledged the political issues involved)
- <span style="tab-stops:list .
- He made it clear that he does not find in Greece any corruption different from other countries but absolutely similar. Here the Opposition has been banging on about how we are swimming in corruption etc. or Kovesi said the exact opposite. Same corruption in Greece as the others.
- as for OPEKEPE and that it is an acronym for corruption, this is not against but for Mitsotakis. It would have been strange if the PM had decided to abolish OPEKEPE and transfer it all to the AADE if it had worked well. Because we thought it was not working well we decided to abolish it and all the opposition parties fought in Parliament to save it. I am rewriting this acronym after Mrs. Covesi of corruption, we abolished it by decision of Mitsotakis and the other parties wanted to rescue it. So who was Ms. Covesi’s comment in favour of?”
“First: When asked whether she thought the briefs that came to the House that were legally weak she went out on a limb and said that: “no one will convince me that the duties of an MP include fraud, corruption etc””…an unacceptable comment as none of us told her that any of these are within the duties of any MP. Just that the briefs she sent out have none of those charges in them and that what they write as charges are our day to day operations. But in this there is no need for further litigation as there is now no immunity and now the entire responsibility of proving her accusations rests with her. I will tell you again none of these briefs stand up in court much ado about nothing.
Second: When asked about the renewal, her tone to the Supreme Judicial Council of the Supreme Court was dismissive to the point of being threatening. Excuse me but European institutions are supposed to respect the institutions of the Member States. So what exactly does he think that the Greek Supreme Court judges are nothing but little children who were threatened by their teacher to be punished (European Court of Justice) and stop being naughty? The ECJ has full jurisdiction and Ms Kovesi’s threats are insulting. They will act according to their conscience because that is what the Greek Constitution Article 90 requires. But this stubborn fight for the right of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office to self-renewal and self-assessment causes me great concern.”
