Athanasios Kavvadas is the new Deputy Minister of Rural Development, replacing Makarios Lazaridis.
The event was announced by the Government Spokesman.
“Following the decision of the Prime Minister, the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food is appointed by the MP of Lefkada, Athanasios Kavvadas. There will be a further announcement on the swearing in of the new Deputy Minister,” he said.
Remember that Lazaridis submitted his resignation last Saturday, after the heated debate regarding his degree, following statements by Dora Bakoyannis that narrowed the scope for him to remain in the government.
Who is the new Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Athanasios Kavvadas

He was born and raised in Katochori, Lefkada. He is the father of two children, Giannis and Emeleia.
He graduated from the Air Force Technical Officers School (S.T.Y.A.) in 1983, and holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy and Management Management from the Department of Philosophy and the Department of Economics of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens.
From 1983 to 2006 he served in positions of responsibility in the Air Force and retired as an officer.
In 1987 he created the business “Kavvadas Beverage Trading”.
In the period 2006 – 2010 he was President of the men’s basketball team “Doxa Lefkada”, achieving, together with his colleagues, its promotion to the A2 National League.
In 2010, in his first candidacy in municipal elections, he was elected as the first councillor from the combination of “Active Citizens”.
During the years 2011 – 2014 he served as Vice President of the Municipal Council of Lefkada.
In 2011 – 2014 he was the first candidate of the Lefkada Municipal Council as a candidate for the first time for the election of the first candidate of the Lefkada Municipal Council.
From 2013 to 2021 he held the position of Vice President of the Union of Football Clubs of Preveza-Lefkada.
In 2014 in the municipal elections, he was re-elected first in votes from all combinations and in January 2015 he stood for the first time in the National Elections.
In September 2015 he was elected for the first time as a Member of Parliament, being the only Member of Parliament of New Democracy in the Ionian Islands region.
In 2016, he was appointed a full member of the Hellenic Aviation Academy
As the only member of the Hellenic Air Force in the Ionian Islands, he is the only one of the only Greek air force members of the Ionian Islands.
In the period 2016 – 2019 he was Deputy Secretary General of the Parliamentary Group.
