Pavlos Marinakis announced that a new draft law on the licensing of regional TV stations is being put out for public consultation. The draft, titled “Licensing of regional free-to-air digital terrestrial broadband television content providers and other provisions”, aims to end a pending issue that has lasted almost three decades.

As noted, until now regional stations have been operating under a temporary “legal operation” regime, without a fully defined and strict control framework, although they are normally participating in the advertising market. The new bill attempts to create a clear and comprehensive licensing system, which – according to him – enhances transparency and contributes to the protection of press freedom.
