The public dispute between PASOK state deputy Panagiotis Doudonis and journalist Vassilis Chiotis was heated.
The dispute included an exchange of accusations and threats of legal action.
It all started when the SKAI radio director claimed in a broadcast that the MP had intervened with the Ministry of Rural Development on the foot-and-mouth disease issue that was troubling the island’s livestock farmers, describing the intervention as a “buffet”.
“Doudonis, who is a candidate in the prefecture of Lesvos, has been on the phone to the Ministry of Rural Development for the past 10 days to compensate the farmers affected by foot-and-mouth disease and to open the market of Lesvos, which is now blocked for cheese products. This is called a buffet, a proper buffet, but it calls for a ban to be lifted, that is, to circumvent legislation…” said Vassilis Chiotis, among others.
Responding via a post on social media, Panagiotis Doudonis accused the journalist, who also hails from Lesvos, of propaganda, saying he is fighting to prevent the island from being destroyed by the foot-and-mouth problem.
“My compatriots, let us salute our compatriot journalist, Mytilenean Vassilis Chiotis! He equates on SKAI 100.3 our struggle and my struggle to prevent our island from being destroyed by foot-and-mouth disease with the illegal buffets of Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ New Democracy. Let’s talk about propaganda and the causes of the destruction of our island by the government’s complete indifference. Shame!” the PASOK MP wrote in a post.

Vassilis Chiotis came back with a post saying: “Can you tell us who you spoke to at the Ministry of Rural Development and what exactly did you ask for? Because if you asked for something that violates the current legislation, then this is a buffoonery with criminal consequences…”
