On the morning of Monday, June 15, 2026, police officers from the Sub-Directorate for Combating Trafficking in Persons and Goods of theOrganized Crime Division in Athens. The suspect is charged with violations of laws regarding the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage in general.
Following the analysis of information provided by the Ministry of Culture and after reviewing digital data, it was found that the 56-year-old had imported and possessed ancient coins and artifacts from abroad, while simultaneously attempting to sell some of them via an online social media platform.
A search was subsequently conducted, in the presence of a judicial officer, at his residence in the Attica region, where the following items were found and seized:
-36- coins,
-15- metal buckles,
-9- rings,
-8- arrowheads,
clay bottle,
clay handle,
object with a female head,
vessel,
necklace mounted in a frame,
The confiscated items were examined by a numismatist and an archaeologist, who concluded that the 35 coins fall under the legislation for the protection of antiquities, while the remaining artifacts will undergo further evaluation and documentation.
The arrested individual, along with the case file compiled against them, will be brought before the competent prosecuting authority.
